Biography

Damjan Jovičin finished primary and secondary school in Prijedor and is currently a Master’s student in composition at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, in the class of Prof. Zoran Erić. He received a commission from the 49th BEMUS – Belgrade Music Festival (2017), first prizes in composition at the International Student Complementary Piano Competition in Niš (2015), the International Piano Competition in Smederevo (2016) and the Isidor Bajić Festival in Novi Sad (2016), and second prize at the Rudolf Brući Contemporary Composition Competition in Novi Sad (2015).

He has taken part in international festivals and seminars: Time of Music 2017 (Finland), Soundmine 2017 (Belgium), Walden Creative Musicians Retreat 2016 (Dublin, New Hampshire, USA), Showroom of Contemporary Sound 2015 (Zagreb, Croatia), Trstenice Symposium 2015 (Trstenice, Czech Republic), Ruidalsud 2015 (Novi Sad) and BEMUS 2017 (Belgrade, Serbia). He attended master classes with the composers Michael Daugherty, Mark Applebaum, Aleksandra Vrebalov, Osnat Netzer, Wim Hendrickx, Renee Favande See, Nicholas DeMaison, Caroline Malonee, Alessio Sabella, Wolfgang Heiniger, Jeff Beer, Ivo Medek and Dimitris Andrikopoulos.

Ensembles that have performed Damjan’s music include the RTS Symphony Orchestra, the Hermes ensemble, the RTS Choir, the Mivos Quartet, the Manojlović Quartet, the Zagreb Flute Ensemble, the String Orchestra of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, the Belgrade Guitar Duo and numerous soloists. His works have so far been performed in the USA, Belgium, Finland, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
